Chanel SS18 Collection

Chanel’s spring-summer 2018 show presented during the final day of Paris Fashion Week with a very spectacular show.

Karl Lagerfeld was around to witness all this postwar excitement as a young man who had left his home in Germany and won The International Woolmark Prize competition in 1957. He is now horrified at the rise of neo-nazism in the country of his birth—after the recent election, far-right candidates are now in the German Bundestag for the first time since Hitler rose to power.

'Germany, when I was eighteen, was not so funny. So was there a political shadow behind this optimistic collection too? If you will, yes. “I don't make explanations of what I design. I am not a philosopher who leaves notes on seats'. Karl Said.

Inspired by 1920’s silhouettes, the German designer focused on fringed tweed jackets, tunics and skirts. Cropped tops also made an appearance alongside the classic Chanel suit. Clear PVC jackets, boots, gloves and boater hats stood out against the backdrop of a magnificent waterfall.
Boxy jackets, fuzzy sweaters and embroidered light-wash denim also dominated the runway. Top models like Kaia Gerber, Taylor Hill and Stella Maxwell were part of the show’s large cast.
