Designers are finding favour with the
Eighties right now, we can see it clearly on Zuhair Murad Sping/Summer 2017 Haute Couture Collection.
There were fireworks at Zuhair Murad’s show. They rained over dresses in
bursts of embroidery, shot upward from tulle shoulder ruffles,
shimmered in red crystals, and shone from the top of the bride’s tiara.
The famous Miyajima Water Fireworks Festival provided endless
embellishment possibilities for the brand’s founder and designer, who
aimed to capture colors and effects alike.
Interesting. It’s when gowns were really gowns –
when they swooped this way and that and looked like a stylistic
reinvention of the Quality Street sweet wrappers. When Princess Barbie
would dress like that, too. These were serious dresses. And couture is
about serious dresses. So look to Zuhair Murad to conjure up a
confectionary box creation – punchy pink, rich red and a magical magenta
to make this a bold and bright collection that ticked all of the above
shiny boxes.
